Tucked away in the high hills of West Kelowna, Niche Wine Company isn’t just a winery—it’s a farm and a way of life.
Here, the founders James and Joanna Schlosser, own a little piece of paradise. Niche is where the love of farming meets the art of winemaking.
The winery staff treat guests like good friends and this is a place where everyone is welcome.
This unique winery, with a breathtaking view, is offered on the WESTSIDE TRAIL TOUR – West Kelowna with Uncorked Okanagan Wine Tours.
This farm winery sits 620 meters above the valley floor, at an altitude that offers more than just stunning views. The last bit of the road to the top can be a little bumpy but it’s breathtaking. Here is where the magic happens—where the soil, the sun, and the wind come together to create something truly special. The family has always believed that great wine begins in the vineyard, but here at Niche, it goes deeper than that. This farm is the heart of everything they do.
James grew up on this farm, learning the ropes from his parents, who first planted grapes here back in the ’90s. The connection he feels to this land is palpable. For James, farming isn’t just a job; it’s a calling. And every bottle of Niche wine is a tribute to the land and community that raised him.
James received his Masters degree in Oenology and Viticulture from Brock University in Niagara. This, followed by another 15 years of winemaking experience, has taught James that although it’s important to be attentive throughout the process, ultimately, wine is an expression of place and time.
Joanna is the creative force behind Niche Wine Co.—a storyteller, strategist, and community builder who turns ideas into unforgettable experiences. With a background as an innovative global marketer and a deep love for the wine and tourism industry in BC, she brings both vision and heart to everything they do.
Niche vineyard might be small, but it’s mighty. At this altitude, the grapes ripen slowly, developing flavours that are as complex as they are compelling. At times, due to popularity and demand, they run out of some wines but they are always working to bottle more. It’s a beautiful place to taste wine in the high hills with the warm mountainside breezes to cool you down from that Okanagan sun.
James & Joanna aren’t only focused on wines. They’ve been expanding their farm, adding new elements with a commitment to sustainability and passion for the land. Recently they’ve introduced a growler program to cut down on waste, and their new quaint Outside Inn Cabins are built with sustainable ‘sea-can’ construction. The cabin stay offers guests a chance to get immersed in farm life. The owners believe that once you experience the farm, you’ll understand why they think it’s so incredibly special.
